What was the problem?

The Third Sector Digital Support project was established to address the stark digital divide prevalent within Wales’ third sector.

According to the Charity Digital Skills Report 2023, many third sector organisations in Wales face significant challenges in adopting digital technologies. These challenges include limited digital skills among staff, insufficient funding for digital initiatives, and a lack of dedicated support.

Despite the potential of digital tools to increase efficiency and enhance service delivery, a substantial portion of the sector is unable to fully benefit from advances in digital.

The Third Sector Digital Support project aims to bridge this gap by providing essential digital skills training, resources, and support to empower organisations to thrive in the digital age.

Our approach

We’re working with WCVA to help us reach third-sector organisations across Wales. We’ll do four things to create a positive difference:

  1. DigiCymru – a free service to help third sector organisations with any challenges related to digital
  2. Build up a network of third sector organisations in Wales to deliver training on good digital practice
  3. Provide bespoke support and training, and funding for third sector organisations to create co-designed digital services
  4. Create and distribute content to show what good digital in the third sector looks like

Outcomes

Over 80 third-sector organisations in Wales have received digital support from the Third Sector Digital Support project.

There have been a wide range of issues that charities and non-profits have sought support with, but three subjects were the most common; CRMs, Office 365 and Google Drive support, and Social Media.

Feedback we have received about DigiCymru has been very positive, with 78.6% of respondents rating the service ‘Excellent’. We asked participants what the most useful thing they had learnt from the sessions was, below are some of their responses:

”The people I spoke to were very enthusiastic and happy to answer any questions I had. They provided me with tailored tips on how to progress in the future.”

“I was reminded of best practice. When working alone, it’s easy to think you’re not using the right processes. It was an excellent way of sharing ideas/best practice.”

“Bespoke to suit our needs. Accessible for all members of our team. Thank you!”
