Athina is a leader in communications, engagement and policy, with over a decade of experience across the third and private sectors. Currently Head of Communications, Engagement and Policy at the Welsh Refugee Council, she leads national influencing strategies to advocate for a fairer, more compassionate asylum system and ensure the voices of sanctuary seekers are heard at every level.

Athina is passionate about people, relationships, and justice. Her work is grounded in a commitment to co-production — centering those with lived experience in shaping services, policy and campaigns. She brings extensive experience in working with marginalised communities, building trust, amplifying unheard voices, and creating real-world impact.

Alongside her strategic leadership in policy and communications, Athina has led successful income generation strategies, securing major funding from trusts, foundations and statutory partners. She has a strong track record in grant writing, stakeholder management, and driving organisational growth through sustainable, values-led fundraising.

Open about her experiences as a neurodiverse person and being hearing impaired, Athina brings authenticity and integrity to her leadership. She is also skilled in crisis communications, public affairs, and team development.
