The Challenge

Public Health Wales wanted to strengthen its digital communication by helping staff feel more confident creating content. With busy workloads and ever-evolving digital platforms, creating engaging content can feel overwhelming. Some participants used tools like Canva regularly, while others were less familiar and keen to learn the basics.

Our Approach

At ProMo, we believe digital skills training works best when it’s hands-on, practical and builds confidence from the ground up. We don’t just teach people how to use tools – we help them discover what’s possible.

Daniele Mele, ProMo’s Media Designer and Producer, led a two-hour Canva training session designed around learning by doing. Participants from Public Health Wales created their own social media posts from scratch, exploring Canva’s user-friendly interface and learning graphic design fundamentals along the way. The session covered everything from building visual harmony to creating simple animations and creating designs for different platforms.

For those who don’t feel naturally creative, we showed how to edit and customise Canva’s thousands of ready-made templates. The aim wasn’t perfection – it was confidence.

Daniele shared: “My approach is to give people the confidence and tools to get started with their content creation journey, spark curiosity and encourage them to keep exploring on their own. Once they see the potential and simplicity of Canva, they quickly find ways to use it across so many different areas of their work.”
