The world of virtual reality (VR) holds immense potential for third sector organisations. VR headsets can be expensive, putting it out of reach for many organisations interested in using tech to better their services, but there may be a way…

What’s the hype around VR headsets?

Virtual reality (VR) lets you experience computer-generated worlds through special headsets. These headsets block out reality and show you 3D environments you can explore and interact with by moving your head and body.

VR can be used for gaming, education, business training, and more! It offers exciting possibilities for Welsh third sector organisations to develop your work, improve staff productivity and support your service users in unique and impactful ways.

Imagine you’re an environmental charity. You could transport those who fund your work to the Yr Wyddfa, showcasing the conservation efforts your charity is undertaking.

With a bit of imagination, there are plenty of uses for VR within the Welsh third sector.

Should your organisation invest in VR?

Let’s face it: technology is ever-changing. Staying up-to-date with digital advancements can feel daunting, but it’s the key to innovation and forward thinking. Digital tools shouldn’t be scary!

While cost can be a barrier for charities with other pressing priorities, the Charity Digital discount on the Meta Quest Pro headset could be the game changer you’ve been waiting for.

Whether you make the most of this discount is up to the needs of your organisation. However, if cost has been your biggest barrier to investing in VR, this discount could be what you’ve been waiting for.

What’s the discount?

Charity Digital, in partnership with Meta, offers a fantastic opportunity for eligible third sector organisations to buy a Meta Quest Pro VR headset at a significantly discounted price.

The RRP of a Meta Quest Pro in 2024 was £999. However, Charity Digital are offering a Meta Quest Pro VR headset from their website at £200 + VAT.

Whilst this is a saving of over £750, there are a few important things to consider before buying one. Whilst the saving is great, you must carefully evaluate if this aligns with your organisation’s budget and VR needs.

Secondly, there are cheaper alternatives to the Meta Quest Pro headset. These include the Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest 3. However, the cost of the Meta Quest Pro with the charity discount is currently cheaper.

Outside of the Meta VR realm, there are other VR products on the market. These include the Pico 4.

Why the Meta Quest Pro?

The Meta Quest Pro was a top-of-the-line VR headset before it was discontinued. It has all the capabilities of VR for gaming and entertainment, as well as polished specs for professional use.

The headset boasts high-resolution visuals, precise hand tracking, and a comfortable design compared to earlier Meta VR headsets.

Claiming the discount

It’s easy to claim the discount. Simply make sure that your third sector organisation is registered with the Charity Digital Exchange.

Once you’ve signed up and are verified, search for “Meta Quest Pro VR Headset” on their product page. You can learn more about the discounted price and any specific product requirements.

If you’re keen to go ahead, you can purchase directly through the Charity Digital Exchange.
